ADHD Assessment Services

Evidence-based psychological assessments designed to support accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning in the Northern Rivers community.

Our Assessment Approach

We believe quality ADHD assessment extends far beyond a simple checklist. Our comprehensive evaluations follow best-practice standards:

Multi-informant data — We gather information from multiple sources—including you, and where appropriate, a partner, parent, or teacher—to understand how symptoms present across different settings.

Objective performance testing — Specific, evidence-based testing provides neuropsychological data on attention, impulsivity, and vigilance that self-report measures cannot capture.

Developmental context — We review relevant documents and clinical history to establish the developmental onset of symptoms

Differential diagnosis — Our clinical intake explores other presentations that may mimic or co-occur with ADHD, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and learning difficulties.

GP-ready reporting — Reports are concise, evidence-based, and designed to support diagnostic and treatment decisions.

Our Partnership With Meadows Health

We've partnered with the experienced GPs at Meadows Health who provide diagnostic confirmation and work closely with clients on treatment options, including medication management where appropriate. This collaborative approach ensures you receive comprehensive care from referral through to ongoing support.

Assessment Packages

These packages are designed to work for most clients’ needs, but every assessment can be tailored to the individual. For adults seeking a more comprehensive evaluation, we can offer an extended package that includes cognitive ability testing (WAIS-IV) and an expanded report—similar to the comprehensive assessment for children and adolescents. If your situation requires additional testing, extended interviews, or extra collateral information to ensure we capture an accurate picture, we'll discuss this with you upfront. In more complex cases, fees may be adjusted to reflect the additional clinical time required—we'll always be transparent about this before proceeding.

WHAT TO EXPECT

1. GP Referral
Your GP at Meadows Health (or another participating practice) conducts an initial screening and provides a written referral.

2. Pre-Assessment Forms
After you contact our practice, we'll send intake forms, consent documents, and online rating scales to complete before your appointment. This maximises the time we spend together.

3. Assessment Appointment
Your appointment includes a clinical interview, review of documents and background information, and completion of the CPT 3 attention test. We'll ensure you feel comfortable throughout the process.

4. Report & Diagnostic Confirmation
Within 10 business days, a comprehensive report is sent to your referring GP. Your GP uses this report to inform their diagnosis at your next appointment, where they will discuss treatment options with you.

5. Follow-up Sessions
If you have chosen a comprehensive assessment for yourself or your child, we will have a follow-up session after they have seen the doctor, where we can go through the findings and recommendations in detail.

Important Information

  • Medicare does not provide rebates for psychological assessment services. Some private health funds may provide a partial rebate depending on your level of cover—we recommend checking with your fund before your appointment.

  • One of the GPs at Meadows Health is the spouse of the assessing psychologist. We manage this dual relationship through transparent disclosure, offering alternative provider options, standardized assessment protocols, and separate clinical record systems. Your choice and wellbeing are always the primary consideration.

  • This service is specifically designed for the Northern Rivers community, where specialist psychology services are limited and wait times are long. Our fees are deliberately set below market rates to improve access for regional families.

  • Psychologists in NSW cannot prescribe medication; however, they are qualified to conduct comprehensive ADHD assessments. Our reports provide the structured evidence base to support your GP at Meadows Health in making diagnostic and treatment decisions, including medication where appropriate.
